Course Description

Level: 1 Co-requisites, Prerequisites:
  • This 3-month mini-course is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about the philosophy and practices of Yoga. It is suitable for beginners, those who are planning to go on to the longer Teaching Diploma and those who would simply enjoy a Yoga refresher.

Course Description:
  • This course is designed to give a broad introduction to classical Yoga.
Aim:
  • To enable students to understand the fundamental principles of Yoga
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course students will have an understanding of:
  • The meaning of Yoga
  • The fundamental principles of Patanjali’s Sutras
  • Insights into the nature of higher consciousness
Content: What is Yoga? Nature of higher consciousness
  • History of yoga basic
  • Sanskrit
  • Styles and paths of yoga
  • Classic texts of yoga
Patanjali’s Sutras: the eight limbs
  • Yama and Niyama
  • Asana
  • Pranayama
  • Pratyahara
  • Dharana
  • Dhyana
  • Samadhi
In addition this course covers:
  • Alignment
  • Flexibilities
  • Standing poses, sitting kneeling poses, salute to sun, balances, twists and inversions.
  • Yoga Nidra
  • Chakras
  • Sadhana
Requirements: to meet the learning outcomes of the course you are required to: 
  • Attend the Introduction to Yoga weekend and to the satisfaction of the Tutors, complete three monthly assignments
Assessment: 1 Non graded:
  • Non graded but tasks must be presented to an acceptable standard.
Costs:  $630 
  • Includes weekend accommodation with vegetarian food, tuition at workshop, main text, course booklet and assignments plus IYTA membership. (Travel costs not included)
  • $50 deposit is due on enrolment, balance payable at workshop.
Course Review:
  • This course is subject to regular appraisal in light of tutor and student evaluation.
